“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit them together in my mother’s womb.Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous–and how well I know it. You were there while I was being formed in utter seclusion! You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe.”
Psalm 139:13-16 (TLB)
When I was in middle school, my mom became very ill due to manifestations of her mental illness. Even though I was only 13 years old, I was her main care-taker. This affected me deeply. As an adult, I had hidden thoughts that God had abandoned me. I felt that I gotten through those years because I “soldiered ahead.” One day, God spoke to my heart and said “Why are you being prideful? You could not have gotten through those years alone. I never left you.”
Wow! I was so thankful for His words. So thankful to cut that pride out of my heart. Pride is a lie and a stronghold that the devil uses to keep us away from intimacy with God. The truth is, God created me with the exact characteristics and qualities that He knew I
would need for those trials. He knew me before He knit me together in my mother’s womb. He knew what I would have to face as a young teen. Not only did God never leave me, He prepared me for the battle! Now I can look back with thankfulness. I thank God for the SHAPE I am. I am perfectly capable to handle the purposes He has put in my life because He created me for them.
Pastor Rick Warren, famous author of The Purpose Driven Life, talks about each of us having a God given SHAPE:
S: Spiritual Gifts (1Cor. 12, Rom. 8, Eph. 4)
H: Heart desires, passions (Matt. 12:34, Ps. 34:7, Pr. 4:23)
A: Abilities (Ex. 31:3, 1Cor. 12:5 – your abilities should not be wasted)
P: Personality (Ps. 119:73-74, Jer. 1:4-5, Eph. 2:10)
E: Life Experiences (Including educational, vocational, spiritual, ministry and painful experiences – Rom. 8:28)
