I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me.
Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus.
I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
Philippians 3:12-14 (MSG)
I look around and think that others have found their purpose so easily. She got married so young and is enjoying being a wife. She has dreamed of being a mom all of her life and now she is the sweetest mama I have ever met. Her goal was to be a veterinarian and she is on the fast track to owning her own clinic. Why have they found their purpose so easily and I have no clue what I am doing with my life?
I would make an educated guess that anyone over the age of 18 has thought “Why am I here? What is my purpose in life?” Have you ever had that thought? I have! Then I realized, it doesn’t have to be that difficult. If you are in Christ, if He is your Savior, then you have a purpose! We can find purpose in the things I mentioned above, our relationship status or our career, but that is not our main purpose.
In Matthew 28, Jesus gives His disciples the Great Commission, and this is for you too! You and I are called to go and share the good news of the gospel. To me, this doesn’t always manifest by me telling a stranger that Jesus died for them and without Him they will go to hell. That can sometimes get weird and push people away from Christ. A lot of times in my life, sharing the good news looks a lot like this: living a life overflowing with generosity, faith and love for all people. Kindly speaking to the cashier and thanking them by name. Offering to pray with a friend who is having a rough day. Taking a meal to a sick neighbor.
I love this version of Philippians 3 because I do not have it all together! But, I keep following Jesus anyways. I keep doing what I know my purpose is. My purpose as a Christian is to faithfully follow Jesus, love others, and over time build a relationship with someone that I can share the good news of the gospel with. In the Entrusted Bible study, Beth Moore says “ Your calling is ‘to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of [you].” You don’t even have to know for certain what it is. All you need to know is that He knows. He’ll show you as you go. You may not be able to give it a name until your race is nearly over. Until then, your calling is whatever– whatever He put in front of you right now.

Ask the Lord to show you a few practical ways you can live out your purpose this week. Write them down and set a goal to do them this week. Don’t over think it. Just think about how you can share God’s loving kindness with those you come into contact with.
