On Display, not Hidden Away

“No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:15-16 (NLT)

You are so valuable to God, but He doesn’t want to lock you in a safe – He’s already locked you in His arms.  He wants His glory to radiate through you to a world that is desperate for hope!

You are a valuable player on God’s team, and He wants to use you to reach others.  He wants to put you on display!  That is why following after Jesus can’t just be something we do on Sundays.  It has to be our way of life.  It has to be what motivates us.  It’s why we are here.

When we are at the grocery store. When we are waiting in the carpool line.  When we are sitting in a waiting room. In all these areas of our day, and of our life, God wants us to see people.  And He wants them to see us.

Being a follower of Jesus makes us different – or at least it should – and that difference should be evident in our lives.  Like a city on a hill – we should stand out!  The love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control displayed in our lives should be what sets us apart, and for those seeking hope, it’s what draws them in.

We must be compelled by love.  In every thought, action, and word, love must be our motivation.  This is how they will know us…by our love.

Do you live like someone who is radically loved?  How does this affect your thoughts, actions, and words?  Would you like to be more compelled by love?  Spend some time in prayer today asking God to fill you with His Holy Spirit.  Ask and expect for Him to fill you to overflowing!  Don’t just do this today, but do it every day – as often as you need to!
