The Cost of Life

“Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 (ESV)

Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

                                                                                    Let that sink in.

Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

You were paid for, by God, with the precious blood of His firstborn Son, Jesus.  When sin entered the world, and robbed Christ of His Bride, He could not bear it.  He knew He did not want to live without you!  So, rather than live without you, He paid your debt in full; taking your place on the cross, He chose to give up His life for yours.

Matthew 10:29-31 reads, “What is the price of two sparrows–one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”  Written in red, spoken by Jesus, and sealed for eternity.

You are worth more than a whole flock of sparrows.
You are worth the life of God’s spotless Lamb.
You are worth the blood of Jesus.

               Sweet, beautiful, merciful… Jesus.

You are worth it to Him.

The enemy hates that.  He wants you to see yourself as invaluable.  Worthless.  He wants you to only see yourself through worldly lenses.  Lenses that measure value by worldly standards of silver and gold – success and wealth.

But Jesus wants us to see ourselves through His eyes.  His eyes of love.

Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross paved the way for you to live a life fully alive!  You were paid for – forever freed from the bondage of sin and death, and invited into fellowship with the One True Lover of your soul.

And you are so very precious and valuable to Him.

If you have allowed your value to be determined by someone, or something else, repent of those thoughts, and devote some time today to write a “Thank You” note to your friend, Jesus.  Rejoice in His love for you, and step into today knowing you are fully alive in Him!

Read John 15:9-17 in a different translation than you normally use – might I suggest The Message version?  Spend some time meditating on that verse, and journal on it. Ask the Father how you can value others around you, and model the love He has shown you.
