The Groom Adores His Bride

As a young man marries a young woman,
   so will your Builder marry you;
as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,
   so will your God rejoice over you.
Isaiah 62:5 (NIV)

For many, it is easier to think of God as a Father, as The Almighty, our Authority, and our Creator.  However, we often are not comfortable thinking of Him as our Bridegroom.  The roles of a Bride and Bridegroom involve intimacy/closeness.

Intimate: (from

  1. associated in close personal relations
  2. characterized by or involving warm friendship or a personally close or familiar association or feeling
  3. very private; close personal
  4. characterized by or suggesting an atmosphere conducive to private intimacy; warmly cozy
  5. (of an association, knowledge, understanding, etc.)
  6. engaged in or characterized by sexual relations
  7. (of women’s clothing) worn next to the skin, under street or outer garments

As you read those various definitions of intimacy and consider your relationship with God, do you relate, or does it seem like a “disconnect” for you?  Oneness is part of God’s plan for a bride and groom, and of course, it is no different for the Bride of Christ and our Divine Groom.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her  to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,  and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
Ephesians 5: 25-27 (NIV)

Let that sink in.  You are His Bride!  He has washed you and dressed you. He gave up His very life just for you, His Bride.  The love of God for you, dear sister, is so deep, so pure, and so sacrificial.  He longs for an open heart from you to embrace oneness with Him.  Is your heart fully His?  Have you become one with Him, just as the Father and Son are one?  He longs to reveal His heart to you.  Spending time with Him and in His Word, and with others who love Jesus and seek the same, is how we truly experience oneness with our Bridegroom. The more time we spend getting to know His heart, the more we become aware of His beautiful love and adoration of His bride!
