I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
I have 4 little daughters. There are a lot of days spent putting on twirly skirts, make-up, fancy shoes, jewelry, and pretty hairstyles. They want to look beautiful. Each of them walks down the staircase as if they are on display for all to view. The music is turned on, then the living room floor becomes a grand ballroom. Daddy and I watch in amazement as they twirl, prance, and dance across the floor. They are stunning. They look at each of us and make sure that our eyes are watching them. Their attire and dancing are not only for them to look beautiful, they desire more. When our eyes connect with theirs, it’s like you can see the longing cry of their hearts: “Mommy? Daddy? Do you think I am lovely?”
Isn’t that the cry of every little girl’s heart? If we are honest, even as a woman, that is our heart’s cry, too. Marketing firms know that women desire to be beautiful. We desire to be captivating. Billions of dollars are spent each year on products that are supposed to make us feel more lovely. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with make-up or fine clothing – I value it and use it daily! I am challenging you to look inside your heart and ask, “Am I using products to make my outward appearance more beautiful, yet lacking authentic beauty on the inside? Do I really believe God when He says that I am captivating?”
Read Psalm 139:14 again but this time in the message version :
I thank you, High God – you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration – what a creation!
When you read it, do you really believe it? It says that YOU are wonderful. YOU are marvelous. YOU!! Say it “I AM wonderful. I AM marvelous”. Dear friend, this is the true word of God. If you are doubting and asking, “Am I lovely? Am I captivating?” The answer is yes and yes!
Listen to the song Priceless by For King and Country. Let God speak the lyrics over you. Here are some words from the chorus “Irreplaceable, unmistakable, incomparable. Darling, it’s beautiful, I see it all in you. Oh, so priceless.” I believe that God sees you just this way!
