The Owner Decides the Price

For,There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.

1 Timothy 2:5,6

I went to Dillard’s the other day to purchase a new dress. I found a beautiful teal dress with lace on the shoulders. I really loved it. I took it to the counter to purchase it and told the clerk that I wanted to pay $35 for it. The clerk looked at me strangely, scanned the tag and the screen said $215! I explained to the clerk that I really liked the dress, I wanted it, and I thought it is worth $35. She giggled at me and replied, “I’m sorry, the dress’s value is $215.”

This is obviously a fictional story, but I thought it was a humorous way to portray how we value ourselves. You may have thoughts that you are not valuable, worthy, or cherished. First, these thoughts are lies. Second, your perception of your worth is not how your value is determined. Just like Dillard’s owned the dress that I wanted to purchase, God owns you. He has already paid for you. If you remember, He paid a very high price. He paid for you with the blood of His only Son.

What is the dollar amount that you have written on your price tag? Do you think that God would agree with that valuation? Most likely not. I challenge you this semester to seek God and the truth that He says about you. He has made you with unique giftings, talents, desires, and passions. There never has been and never will be another woman that is the same as you. He thinks that you are so valuable, that before He even created you in your mother’s womb, He sent His son to this Earth to die for you. He wanted you to live a life of freedom. A life fully alive! He paid the price to ensure your freedom. Are you living in a way that shows you believe Christ sacrifice was priceless?

Digging deeper

Read Job 38. God created everything! He has storehouses for the snow and the hail. This same God, created you! How prideful of us to think that we know more about our worth than Him. There is no dollar amount that can be set for the price of Jesus perfect life on the cross for you.
