Producing Good Fruit

“Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:7 (NKJ)

Have you ever grown weary waiting to see fruit come to pass in your life?  Have you ever felt like you faithfully worked, believed and waited, but still the good fruit that the Lord promises seemed like a long time coming?  May you be encouraged today that if you stay the course and do not give up, you will reach a place of great harvest beyond what you have ever known.  Before a fruit-producing tree comes to the season where it blossoms and bears fruit, it first goes through a season where it must drives its roots down deep into treethe earth where it can draw on a constant source of nourishment.  As it draws from the
nourishment of the ground, it transports the life-giving nutrients upward through its limbs and outward through its branches.

A tree goes through many hard seasons in its

It endures the blazing heat, blistering cold, and rattling winds.  In order to withstand the elements and come to the season of fruit-bearings, the tree must draw its strength and energy from deep down in its roots.  This great source of life helps the tree to be able to withstand and outlast the elements of every season.  These life-giving nutrients not only strengthen the tree from the elements of the seasons, but also help protect the tree from any pestilence that may try to attack it throughout the years.

Psalm 1:3 says, “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”

This verse is a beautiful picture of what is vowed when you are rooted deep in God’s words and promises.  The word prosper is not a guarantee of future financial or monetary worth, but rather that the righteous person is irreplaceable and priceless to the Lord.  God sees the faithfulness and steadfastness of the tree and in that, there is great purpose.  In our world, the “get rich quick” scheme rarely survives the test of time.  Many obtain much fruit very quickly, but usually the person does not have the roots and experience needed to maintain the fruit they produce. Without strength and stability, they are unable to withstand the hardships that come their way.  The same goes for us!  God created seasons for a purpose, to strengthen and prepare you for the hardships and challenges you may face in life.  He wants you to drive your roots deep in Him, so that you will not be moved by the elements of the world, but instead continually seek out life giving nourishment from Him – the only true source of all life!

Digging Deeper

God established a beautiful and purposed process of seed, time and harvest (Genesis 8:22).  The Scripture says as long as the earth endures…this word speaks of an undergoing, process, and maturing that must take place before fruit can be produced.  God purposed this process for your benefit and for your growth.  What season are you finding yourself in? What do you believe to be the purpose of this season?  Is it to be strengthened, to remain steadfast, to be still and rest? Whatever the season may be, know that there is great purpose!  Root yourself deep in who the Father says you are and who you are called to be.  Take heart, for eventually you will see blossoms begin to bud in your life, signaling you are entering into a long-awaited season of bringing forth much fruit!
