I rushed out the door to pick up my son from a school practice this week. I did what I normally do and I grabbed the first pair of shoes I could find in our huge box o’ shoes located in the garage. I found a cute pair of lime green flip flops with ribbons tied to the top. I knew they weren’t my shoes, but I could squeeze my feet into them without my toes curling over the front of the rubbery sole. Figuring they were snug, but not unbearable, I stayed my course and jumped in the car to continue my journey.
Arriving back home I tossed the miniature shoes back into the bin with a grin and thought, “they served their purpose.”
Remembering back over my walk with Jesus, there were times I asked to serve because I felt a passion and calling to lead and care for the people. And there were other times, I was asked to serve in places I would not normally pick because there was a need. Regardless of the reason, serving people always connects us to our Servant King and it brings a revelation of Jesus’ love for me and his love for others when I give of myself.
Like those lime green flip flops serving isn’t always comfortable, but you won’t know where you fit unless you put both feet in.
I want to invite you to an informational meeting to hear more about our ministry to K-5th grade girls here at Lifegate. Lifegate Girls is about to enter into its second year as we kick off this fall. There are many opportunities to serve within this ministry and various levels of commitment for each one. Our whole goal of Lifegate Girls, is that our daughters would embrace their worth as a daughter of God and use it to change the world around them. Please come hear the vision behind this program and how you can be a part of this awesome, life-changing ministry to girls Wednesday August 15, 6:30 pm in room 205/206. We hope to see you there!
