Every once in a while I walk into my kitchen at home and find a perfectly round outline of a bagel on my counter top made from cinnamon sugar.  The bagel is nowhere to be found.  It is just as if a crime had taken place and where there once was a bagel there is now just a delicious chalk outline.  Once upon a time I would get frustrated when I found evidence of this kind because the perpetrator didn’t give any thought to it’s clean up.  However, now after 20 years of marriage, I can only smile when I find these sugary googly eyes looking back at me and think lovingly at the one who left them.  It didn’t take long for the same DNA that flows through my husband to find its way to our sons.  However, I usually find their bagel outlines on a plate or paper towel. (Evidence that a bit of my DNA got through).

There is another type of ‘finger print’ followers of Christ leave on our world.  It shows up in relationships, during business transactions, and while we drive our cars.  John 13:35 says, “This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.”

Love is the evidence that we are HIS.  Love is the very DNA of God. His DNA courses through my veins proving that I am his child.  I want to leave more and more evidence everywhere I go that I belong to Jesus.   And if it is up to me I’d like it to be the kind that sticks, just like the bagel outline on my counter top.

But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us …perfect love!
