I love magazines! I don’t know if its the crisp pages, bright pictures, or bold promises to fix my dinner rut or mismatched clothing choices. Typically, I have stacks of them without the time to partake, but since it is summer one of my favorite things to do is sit on my patio and peruse the delicious pages of artistically aligned font and photo.
I flipped past “What NOT to Wear”. Those poor ladies with the black rectangle over their eyes…like that will hide the shame. I turned to the “affordable fashions”. This page comes with the guarantee that I can look like a million bucks for under $50! This excites me, especially since my summer wardrobe consists of a closet full of $10 tees, shorts, and flip flops. (I love summer, too, btw).
As soon as I saw the headline “What to Wear this Summer” I thought of Colossians 3. The first part of the chapter talks about What Not to Wear – so very important, and no black rectangles. The second half describes the gorgeous wardrobe God picked out just for me. Now that is a high-fashion designer!!
So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you; compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, and quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. Its your basic, all purpose garment. Never be without it. Colossians 3:12-14 Message
I love this passage, but I must admit there are days when the humilty God laid out for me feels a little tight…Or maybe my head just got bigger. Other times my compassion doesn’t match with the events I have scheduled for the day. And Lord, please help me when I forget my foundation garment of Love! Momma wasn’t the first person to say never leave home without it.
So, from now on when I go to my closet to pick my clothes for the day I will remember there is a perfect wardrobe laid out for me. It is always on the what to wear page of the best fashion guide out there. All I have to do is make the choice to wear it.
