When you open your junk drawer and almost get stabbed with scissors it may be time to clean out the drawer. It is that time of year. The time when the air is warm and there are all kinds of articles and blogs about spring cleaning. Not that I love to clean, but I sure love to get rid of clutter.
Most days I feel like my mind is a little like my junk drawer. I would love to think it is as sharp as those scissors were, but actually it tends to be cluttered with schedules, tasks, bills, appointments, work, meals, school (not my own, however, I am re-learning algebra and World History through my kids) What else can I fit in this brain of mine? The better question is…
What can I clean out, so that I can meditate on God’s Word?
Meditating on God’s Word is like clearing away the clutter of our minds. Meditating helps us to get our heart right, it detaches us from things around us, and gives us a better perspective on life.
Meditating is not difficult. You don’t need a special mat or yoga pants. To start all you need is a few minutes and a verse. I’ll even help you out with that one today:
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
It is as simple as drawing away and sitting with God. Think about him and his words to us. It’s a beautiful day to sit out back and clear my head, then I’ll think about clearing out that drawer!
