Spring Ahead!

Post by: Lisa Keith

Freezing warm, stormy calm, budding, beautiful Spring!  In nature, spring is a time of stormy transition.  I think of it as a time when God is washing away all the grit and grime from winter.  In Nebraska we tend to have a lot of it.  I’m never bored with springtime weather, but rather anxious in a good way for new growth and new life.

Even now we are beginning to see a a bit of green fighting its way up from the cold, dry ground.  What that means to my daughter is that the RACE IS ON!  Every Spring we search our yard with great anticipation to find the first flower of Spring.  It is a fun game, but it is also a lesson each year that despite the storms of life God produces good fruit.

Spring breeds hope that the warmth and fun of summer is on its way.  Just like in nature, the spiritual fruit of our life is in danger if we don’t protect it.  We need to protect fruit by covering it with the Word, prayer, and accountability with others.

On June 27, 2008, just as a tornado was barreling down Maple Street, I was in a hospital room ready to give birth to my son, Cash.  As the doctor was telling me to push a nurse walked in and said, “You have to have this baby now or we are going to have to wheel you into the hallway!”

Talk about motivation to bear fruit!!!

In this season two necessary ingredients are determination and perseverance even though there is a storm raging around you.

Jeremiah 17:7-8   “Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought…

…and never fails to bear fruit.”
