WHAT’S IN YOUR CIRCLE?
On Tuesday in our small group time my table read through Hebrews 11 reflecting on the “Heroes of Faith” and suddenly I felt like the biggest whiny baby ever! I suggest you read it. But still, I did not feel condemned. I felt the deep desire to grow my faith and believe for bigger, more extravagant, miraculous and even ridiculous things (by the worlds standards).
Faith is noun. Why did I always think it was a verb? Faith is the substance of what we hope for and evidence of what we cannot see, Hebrews 11:1. I think our faith grows when we add the action of trust and obedience to it. In Matthew 17:20-21 Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” If we have even the smallest amount of faith, if we act on it, even the impossible can be done. That is what I want!
We all have mountains. Recently, we heard about the story of Honi and the circle he drew and stayed in until he saw rain in a drought destroyed land. If you haven’t begun reading “The Circle Maker” by Mark Batterson, I suggest you do. It is a book about praying circles around your biggest dreams and greatest fears. It helps to physically draw a circle and write your biggest need in it. God wants us to ask for BIG things because he can do so much more than we can ask or even imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
